These were a series of six-storey listed buildings where the bay window support beams at sixth floor level were found to be heavily corroded.
These were a series of six-storey listed buildings where the bay window support beams at sixth floor level were found to be heavily corroded.
A bespoke temporary support beam (jig beam) was designed by Wyatt Carruthers Jebb to support the upper brickwork incorporating wall and pier clamps, thereby allowing the existing corroded beams to be removed and replaced. This obviated the need for internal access to the individual flats and allowed the work to proceed without causing any further damage to the building.
The beams have been replaced without any visible alteration to the front elevations.
This is an ongoing project, and seven out of fifteen sets of beams have now been replaced (by late 2024).
