3D Steel Frame Penthouse Design

The client requested a penthouse extension on the roof of an existing masonry/concrete six-storey building.

// Project Overview

Wyatt Carruthers Jebb Ltd created the 3D FE model; including transverse moment resisting frame and longitudinal braced walls for stability.

We carried out all calculations and structural design details, applying the proposed design loads (including DL, LL and Wind Load) to FE model, designing the structural framing, the specialised footing restraints, and also assessed the geotechnical response.

The base plates of the new steelwork were set to overlay external and internal load bearing walls to avoid punching failure.

It was a very interesting project to work on that required structural ingenuity. The Client decided not proceed with the Works.
